The festival is open to works completed between 2021 and the current year, of any nationality, length, genre, and format. Each author may submit as many films as they deem appropriate. A single competitive section will be established, where feature, medium, and short films will coexist with no genre restriction. Expanded cinema, experimental cinema, and works from the field of visual arts will also be included.

The concept guiding this edition is the transnational character of Cuban independent cinema and its growing dialogue with other cinematographies, especially those from areas also ruled by authoritarian governments.

An international jury will grant the Nicolás Guillén Landrián Award to the work that best reflects and explores, through audiovisual, a taboo issue of its particular society. This award includes a 3000 USD prize to support the next project of the winning artist. With this initiative, iNSTAR intends to pay tribute to the incisive cinematographic work of Cuban documentarian and painter Nicolás Guillén Landrián (Camagüey, Cuba, 1938 - Florida, United States, 2003).

This call for entries is open from June 26 until September 5, 2023. The official competition selection and collateral exhibitions will be announced on INSTAR’s website and social media on October 30, 2023.

The entry form can be found HERE. For inquiries regarding the terms and conditions, please contact us at festivalcine@instar.org. Participation in the festival implies full acceptance of its guidelines. In case of any violation, the works will be automatically disqualified
