    María Matienzo is a narrator and independent journalist in Havana from where she has worked for the independent sites Havana Times, Diario de Cuba, Revista Voces, ADNCuba and Hypermedia Magazine, Diario de las Américas and the newspaper El Tiempo in Colombia. She published a selection of reports, Apocalipsis Habana (americans are coming), with the Spanish publisher, Sarmancanda.

    Editorial Hurón Azul has published her stories in the anthology Alamar te amo and a novel, and a novel this year, Elizabeth aun juega a las muñecas. In the Mexican magazine, Papeles de la Mancuspia, a story; another story in Otro Lunes, in Germany; and several in Cuba—”Mientras recuerdo al Secretario del Partido” for Abril, and an essay on Cuentos Fríos by Virgilio Piñera fragmented in three national magazines: Matanzas, El mar y la montaña and El caimán barbudo.
    She is currently the director of the PIO TAI children’s literature collection of the Hurón Azul publishing house and a journalist for the independent media outlet, Cubanet.
