    Lester Alvarez Meno
    (Camagüey, 1984)

    Lester Alvarez Meno graduated from the Faculty of Plastic Arts of the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in Havana in 2011. Since then he has been creating works, organizing and producing events in various media, based on collaborating with vulnerable people and spaces. He is the creator of the independent publishing house La Maleza, a project for which he received the Estudio 21 Scholarship from the Center for the Development of Visual Arts of Havana (CDAV) in 2017 and the Vita Activa Residency from INSTAR in 2019. In 2018 he won the Artistic Practices Residency, the result of an exchange program between Artista x Artista in Havana and Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao, which concluded with an exhibition in the latter in late 2019 and early 2020. Together with the curator Abel González Fernández and the artist Kevin Ávila Rodríguez he developed a video series entitled SIN349, about the young artistic and cultural scene that resisted the implementation of a decree to regulate freedom of expression in Cuba. This series received the Next Generation grant from the Prince Claus Fund in 2019. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Cinematographic and Audiovisual Archive at the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Tabakalera, San Sebastián, and was awarded a Madrid Film Academy Residency scholarship in 2020–2021.
